Our Client plays a major role in the Royal Australian Navy sustainment program at Osborne, providing specialist corrosion protection, surface preparation, and asset preservation services for naval vessels. Their work supports the maintenance and life‑extension of surface ships and submarine infrastructure, including blasting, coating, waterproofing, and structural rehabilitation. Our Client operates within high‑security defence environments, delivering quality‑controlled preservation work that ensures Navy assets remain operational, safe, and mission‑ready.
 
Painter & Blaster Duties (Naval Projects – Osborne, SA)

Blaster Duties

• Perform abrasive blasting (garnet/steel grit) on naval vessels and components to required defence specifications (e.g., AS 1627, SSPC standards).
• Set up and operate blasting pots, compressors, hoses, and breathing air systems safely and efficiently.
• Conduct surface preparation inside ship compartments, hull sections, tanks, and confined spaces.
• Ensure correct surface profile, cleanliness, and environmental conditions before coating.
• Install and maintain containment systems to control dust, overspray, and environmental impact.
• Follow strict Defence WHS, PPE, and permit-to-work procedures, including confined space and working‑at‑heights protocols.
• Maintain blasting equipment and report defects immediately.

Painter Duties

• Apply protective marine coatings (epoxies, primers, urethanes, zinc-rich coatings) to naval vessels, modules, and ship components.
• Use airless spray guns, rollers, and brushes to achieve required coating thickness and finish.
• Perform hand and power tool preparation (grinding, sanding, needle‑gunning) prior to coating.
• Measure wet film thickness (WFT) and dry film thickness (DFT) to meet Defence and OEM specifications.
• Monitor temperature, humidity, and dew point to ensure correct coating conditions.
• Mix multi‑component coatings accurately and manage pot life and curing times.
• Carry out touch‑ups, repairs, and rework in tight, complex ship environments.
• Maintain clean work areas and follow all naval safety, environmental, and quality control procedures.

Shared Responsibilities

• Work safely in high‑risk naval environments, including confined spaces, tanks, voids, and elevated areas.
• Follow Defence security protocols and site access requirements.
• Communicate effectively with supervisors, QA inspectors, and team members.
• Meet production deadlines while maintaining high-quality workmanship.
• Uphold Clients standards for asset preservation, corrosion control, and life‑extension of naval assets.

You Will Bring

• Relevant qualifications and/or significant industry experience
• White Card
• Current Driver's Licence
• Confined Space Ticket (highly desirable)
• Working at Heights Ticket (highly desirable)
• Police Clearance or willingness to obtain one within 3 months
• Unlimited Australian work rights
• Experience in abrasive blasting, industrial painting, brush and roller painting, or similar coating applications
